What was really called Mother Teresa

in #story4 years ago

In Skopje, near Macedonia Square in the city center, is the memorial house-museum of Mother Teresa. This museum can be recognized by the unusual architecture and sculpture of Mother Teresa in front of it.

It turns out Agnes Boyagiu, that was actually the name of Mother Teresa, was born and spent her childhood in Skopje - in the old city. And on this place where this temple-museum of her name now stands (because it is a temple) there was the same Catholic church in which the future mother Teresa was baptized. On the third floor of the house, in the chapel, services are held once a week.

In 1910, when Mother Teresa was born, Skopje, like Macedonia, still belonged to the Ottoman Empire.

The house-museum was built in 2009 and two million euros were spent on its construction. Since then, this place has been visited by thousands of pilgrims - so great is the popularity of Mother Teresa in the world. To my shame, I must admit that I became interested in the life and work of Mother Teresa only after visiting this museum. I used to have no reason. It turned out that Mother Teresa is a very interesting person, about whom there are a lot of conflicting information in the world. There are even conspiracy theories.

Agnes Boyagiu was born in a wealthy family of Catholics and a girl from childhood took part in the charity work of her Albanian mother. Then she cut her hair as a nun, went to India and her mission began there.

The organization “Sisters of the Missionary Love”, which she founded in 1948, is still active around the world.

On the second floor of the house-museum is an exposition dedicated to the personal life (life) and social activities of Mother Teresa: documents, photographs, a bed and even a lamp. Entrance to the museum is free and free; photography is not prohibited. The exposition is not tiring, however, if you want to relax and have a bite, I recommend the restaurant Destan.

Macedonia is very close to Bulgaria, and Skopje once even visited the Bulgarian capital.

All these autumn photos were taken by me personally.
