Video: The Strangest, Coolest Materials Which Do Actually Exist.

in #strange7 years ago (edited)

This is my favorite, hydrophobic materials.

First up in this video we will cover ultra hydrophobic material's, also know as the lotus effect. The lotus effect refers to self-cleaning properties that are a result of ultrahydrophobicity as exhibited by the leaves of Nelumbo or "lotus flower". Dirt particles are picked up by water droplets due to the micro- and nanoscopic architecture on the surface, which minimizes the droplet's adhesion to that surface. My favorite part is were they throw a tub of mud on two guys wearing suits and nothing sticks on the one! also the ability to completely waterproof electronics with this stuff is amazing. You can read more about this amazing plant on wiki: Source

Also covered in this video is Hydrogel, Gallium Metal , Aerogel and last but not least Magnetic Thinking Putty very cool stuff. Maybe drop a comment and let me know which one is your favorite?

I wonder if the hydrophobic materials applied in this video would allow a person to waterproof and submerge mining equipment in water for extra cooling. Not sure it would last thou but its a interesting thought.

Mnnnn with the added heat and long period of time the equipment would need to be submerged I dont think it would last but I could be wrong. Would make a interesting experiment. I have noticed you can buy this stuff online so the experiment is possible.

Wow - AWESOME. Followed.

Thanks appreciate it!
