MonoMad - Street Photography - A Street in a Pipeline Slum Destroyed

I sought out this slum after meeting a Canadian family travelling in India. They told me about "The Dirty Wall Project" in Mumbai where they have sponsored the people and school for several years.

In December, this 20-year-old slum was destroyed by government-hired bulldozers. This is not the first time these minimal and humble homes have been destroyed.

"The BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) has been ordered by the Bombay High Court to demolish slum pockets located along the main water pipelines in the city. This order affected over 5000 people along 9 kilometers of pipeline. A 24-hour warning sign for demolition was posted by the BMC near a stand of toilets. To hurry the process along and halt any notion of families hanging on to their homes, the water supply was cut two days before. Then the crude electrical boxes were smashed, wires were cut and the lights went out. A few days later, municipal workers, backed by a large gathering of police and BMC officers, armed with sledgehammers and wearing flip-flops, marched into the community and started breaking walls followed by the backhoe reducing the homes to rubble over the course of a very long day. That is very sad.
Not a permanent solution to the problem at all.

No, it is not a well-executed solution at all. It is very sad indeed.

That's heartbreaking. I hope one day we will all help each other, and that those who have more will see those who have less as equals, people to be supported. We're all human, and each human deserves to be treated with decency and respect. Blessings to you for shining a spotlight on this. Blessings to the people who have had to find new homes.

Thanks for your thoughtful and heartfelt comment @katrina-ariel. I feel the same. These people are incredibly resilient as they have been through so much since their birth.
