Hurricane irma was the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States since Wilma in 2005, ending a record 12-year drought in which no hurricanes made landfall at such an intensity in the country. Harvey made landfall in Houston on August 25th as a Category 4 hurricane with 130 mph winds and subsequently dropped 40 inches of rain on average. Two-and-a-half weeks later, Hurricane Irma comes and and make landfall in the Florida Keys on September 10th as a Category 4 hurricane with 130 mph winds brought much flooding to both east and west coasts of Florida. Prior to the Keys, Hurricane Irma devastated about a handful of Caribbean Islands, some of which are deemed uninhabitable. though not mentioned much in this country, lets not forget about the powerful southern Mexico earthquake that struck on September 8th with a magnitude of 8.1, making it one of the most powerful in Mexico's history. That earthquake, unfortunately, resulted in about 90 deaths, the majority of which took place in the Oaxaca state.
Three MAJOR natural disasters took place all within approximately a two week span, and all three disasters were within relatively close proximity of one another....is this a sign of things to come? Are these events precursors to even bigger natural disasters? Were all of these 'natural' or were some of these events 'man-made'? (Conspiracy theory-ish I know)...my sense is that with the hurricane season ending on November 30th, we may be in for more rumblings from above.
