Imagine my surprise to return and find #sublimesunday still going strong, and discover #beautifulsunday has popped up and is championed by my good friend @ace108! It has been 6 months since my last #sublimesunday post so lets shake the rust off.
This Sunday falls right in the middle of Family Day Weekend for some provinces in Canada. This extra holiday was adopted in this province 15 years ago most likely because there were no holidays between New Years Day and Good Friday. These winter long weekends are generally good for more of everything I do on a weekend. An extra day of sleeping in, and extra night of staying up late gaming with friends. Another 24 hours to fit in chores or even take on a special project.
This year, it started with a little ice storm which made for some good extra dog walks in the woods. Looking up at the magical glistening branches, I wondered if the camera phone would capture the spectacle properly. We have had a couple days of sun but some of the ice clung like armor on many of the trees.
Sir Fuzzyface didn't seem to be impressed with the crystalline trees but was happy enough to munch on fallen ice casings that had dropped to the path. He was more into trotting in every direction and investigating every inch of the forest.
I couldn't quite find the angle on the icy branches that caught the light well enough but didn't capture the setting sin for overexposure. I enjoyed this view as the sun is so yellow and arid looking while the frozen branches contrast in the foreground.
Neat lines from these frozen sentinels and I am enjoying the chaotic contrast and fade from white to cool blue. This may be a green giant in a couple short months.
While enjoying the moments walking along the path and breathing in the crisp air, I was reminded of @borjan's posts where he zooms right in to capture macro details. Pulling my eyes from the branches above, my gaze fell to these spiky little numbers that I usually have to pull from fur after every sojourn to the dog park. This time, the burrs were wearing crystal helmets very ornate and alien. What sublime subject matter!
The sun was completing its retreat to recharge and try to melt away the frozen layer the next day. I was enjoying this tangle of icy branches when I looked through to see the background.
A quick adjustment of the depth of field and the glass rods become a neat frame for the setting sun. The way the yellow light licks the edges of the ice makes me grateful for the moment I might have missed except for the camera I always have with me.
The sun has gone down on a Sunday that is beautiful and sublime all in one. Sandwiched between a fun Saturday and a holiday Monday, sleeping in, walking with stripy face and enjoying the crystal forest.
I hope your Sunday was as sublime and I look forward to seeing your post.
It's nice to have one holiday just because we need one. 😎
For use, our holiday dry period is usually June and JulyI cannot remember how long #beautifulsunday has been going on.
Before family day became an extra holiday, the winter seemed so much longer. 3 coldest months without a long weekend is unconstitutional!
Glad to have found and supported the tag old friend.
We have hot rather months in June and July and we still think we don't have enough holiday.
Spectacular photography…. I have never seen a bunch of burrs look so beautiful.
Yah man.
I am usually sitting and pulling them out of fur! Not bad for a camera phone.
Beautiful pics! It looks so damn cold!
Though beautiful I will keep to Winter rains and lots of winds thanks. 🤣🤣
It may look cold and frozen but it was like 8 Celsius! Not bad for the dead of winter in 🇨🇦
Though not having to shovel does sound sublime ;)
🤣🤣🤣🤣 See, South Africa has a varied temperature. There are places that see -10C. But our Cape Town get to a lowest of maybe 4C ever, with most of the winter around 8 or 10C.
The ice covering the thorny plants is very interesting. It looks like scalp🤣
It was very warm in Japan today, but will the Canadian winter last much longer? Thanks for the beautiful photos‼
We are never sure exactly how long the winter will last and are always surprised at a spring false start every year. The days are getting longer though and we will be seeing blooms in late march I suppose.
You share a great photographs in your sublime Sunday 💪, no matter how is the big amount of ice on the area, once the sun heat down it will melt, I enjoyed all the beautiful photos, especially capturing the macro details.
Thanks for reading and engaging! If you like Macro, you have to check out my friend @borjan
Okay, I'll thanks 💥♥️♥️
