Finally... and some new buds

The flower finally opened today and it has shown itself to be a Huernia volkartii subspecies repens. I really like the long "spikes" in the centre of the flower. It doesn't have too much of a smell either, always a bonus.

I got this little fatty, which belongs to the genus Piaranthus at the same time as the plant above and I see tiny buds forming. This has also never flowered for me so I am looking forward to it. Their flowers usually look like little starfish

Look really closely more or less in the centre of the bottom two thirds of the picture

This huernia is also going to flower again, it has flowered for me before and the flowers are maroon and velvety, with a typical Huernia bell shape. The large bud-like shapes in the centre are new stems but there is a flower forming in the centre where the dots are and there are also some buds at the bottom third of the diagonal green stem.

These smaller kinds of stapeliads have less showy flowers but they tend not to smell as bad as their more flamboyant cousins, which is not a bad thing.

Beautiful Stapelia!
But i won’t be surprised with "aromas" :-)))

Neat! I've never had those things flower for me. I gave up on even keeping them around years ago. But we ended up with a Christmas cactus back in March that has somehow managed to not die on us. It might even be....thriving...?? Maybe it will bloom some day.

They like it to be hot and dry before they will flower, otherwise, nothing doing. Christmas cactus actually do like it cooler and less sunny so it may well bloom for you

Are most of the plants you show here native to Africa?

Yes, mostly Southern Africa

These flowers are straight, as from science fiction films. It seems that they will slam if someone sits on them.

That's why I like them

Amazing how beautiful the flowers are on these ugly duckling succulents.

That flower really looks like something flesheating.. or like something out of movie that'll shoot out and lay eggs in your brain.

Nature is fascinating, in its many forms.
