Sugar Kills!

in #sugar7 years ago

Hi guys this is just going to be a quick intro into my thoughts and experiences over the last 5 years with sugar! I'm not a doctor and this isn't medical advise but these are my ideas and views on a potentially very dangerous industry.

SUGAR. We all love it. But why?
Sugary foods are extremely desirable because of the powerful impact sugar has on the reward system in the brain called the mesolimbic dopamine system. The neurotransmitter dopamine is released by neurons in this system in response to a rewarding event.

Drugs such as cocaine, heroine and cigarettes all hijack this brain system. Activation of this system leads to intense feelings of reward that can result in cravings and addiction. Basically sugar acts the same way as most recreationally drugs in society today forcing high dopamine release in the brain.

This chemical circuit is activated by natural rewards and behaviours that are essential to continuing the species, such as eating tasty, high energy foods, having sex and interacting socially. Activating this system makes you want to carry out the behaviour again, as it feels good.

So.... Sugar is literally a drug. Now i understand why its in everything!

The next thing to understand is what the impacts of sugar are on your health? This is a massive debate and i will go into more depth in another blog but here is a good photo to show some of the problems.

I think sugar needs to be taken a lot more seriously when you look at disease statistics of Western Countries! I'm going to save a lot more stuff for another blog but please take some time to read this and spread a good message getting people to cut down there sugar intake.

Peace out Greenerz

Totally agree with all this.
We dont need refined sugar, there is enough in fruits :)
