In the world of luxury automobiles, Bristol Cars has carved a niche for itself as a producer of exclusive, handcrafted vehicles. Among their illustrious creations, the Bristol Fighter stands out as a remarkable supercar that graced the automotive scene from 2004 to 2011. While in London I came across the Bristol Car showroom and snapped a few shots of the Bristol Fighter, a true masterpiece of British engineering.

The Birth of Bristol Fighter

The Bristol Fighter made its debut in 2004, capturing the attention of automotive enthusiasts worldwide. As a product of Bristol Cars, a company known for its commitment to craftsmanship and exclusivity, the Fighter embodied the essence of a supercar.

Powerhouse Engine

At the heart of the Bristol Fighter lies a mighty 7,996 cc (487.9 cu in) V10 engine. This powerhouse is based on the engine found in the iconic Dodge Viper and the Dodge Ram SRT-10 pickup. With its immense displacement and V10 configuration, the Fighter roared to life with extraordinary power and performance.

Designed for Aerodynamics

The sleek and captivating coupé body of the Bristol Fighter was designed by Max Boxstrom, a former Brabham Formula One engineer. The most striking feature of the car is undoubtedly its gullwing doors, which added an air of drama to its appearance. Beyond aesthetics, the design was optimized for aerodynamics, achieving a remarkable Cd (coefficient of drag) of 0.28.

The Bristol Fighter T

In 2006, Bristol Cars introduced the Bristol Fighter T, a two-seater sports car variant of the original Fighter. It retained the formidable V10 engine, promising exhilarating driving experiences for its fortunate occupants.

Enter the Bristol Fighter S

For those who craved even more power, Bristol Cars offered the Bristol Fighter S. This enhanced version boasted an astounding 660bhp, claiming the title of the world's fastest front-engined production car at the time. It was a testament to Bristol's dedication to pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering.

Legacy and Exclusivity

Throughout its production run, the Bristol Fighter remained a rare and exclusive gem in the automotive world. With only a handful of units produced, each car was meticulously crafted to the highest standards, making it a collector's dream.

The Bristol Fighter was a bold departure from Bristol Cars' traditional lineup, a venture into the supercar realm that showcased their engineering prowess and commitment to exclusivity. With its thunderous V10 engine, sleek aerodynamics, and unforgettable gullwing doors, the Bristol Fighter left an indelible mark in the annals of automotive history. Although production ceased in 2011, the Bristol Fighter continues to be celebrated as a symbol of British automotive excellence and a testament to the enduring allure of high-performance supercars.

I have heard of the company, but I think the cars are pretty rare. I was reading that it came out of the aircraft company of the same name and I was watching a documentary about the planes just last week. There used to be so many British car manufacturers, but most have been bought out or gone bust. Mini, Vauxhall, MG, Jaguar and even Rolls Royce are all foreign owned now. At least they still build some cars here.

Yes Bristol Aerospace, and yes during my research they are extremely rare only producing a handful, I never ventured inside when I was in London, stumbled across the showroom on my way to an event so I only had time for the through the glass photos. I didn't realise at the time that Bristol Aerospace was involved, kinda cool!
