An open letter to my cousin - do Superstitions have to do with you?

An open letter to my cousin who passed away today at around 8:20 6 August 2018.

You met your husband in Baguio City, Philippines when you were studying there. You were sweethearts for years until you decided to tie the knot less than a decade ago. I don’t know if superstations are true – if somebody mourned and lighted a black candle at the day of your wedding, your married life wouldn’t be good. But somebody told me that at the day of your wedding, two souls mourned. They were two siblings. One of them were your husband’s former girlfriend. They probably wore black veils and dress and lit a black candle.

In 2004, we looked after you at the hospital in Baguio City because you had to undergo a surgery for your brain tumor. The next year, you had to undergo the same kind of operation because your tumor grew bigger. After that, your husband has been diagnosed with the same situation as you have. Both of you have brain tumors then.

He first had his brain surgery in 2006 and 2009 if I am not mistaken. After your husband’s second surgery you had your third one and decided to stop there should your doctor advice you for another surgery. You were in a coma for 3 days. You went nuts after waking up. It’s as if you went back being a child. I understand that.

The third operation was successful. Your doctor told us that it’s clear already. A few years passed, and your tumor grew again. Your condition kept you bedridden for a long time.

You have suffered enough. It is time for you to rest. You finally gave up today at 8:20 pm 06 August 2018. Don’t worry, you will have your husband with you in heaven. Just wait.

Rest in peace now cousin!
