End Plastic Pollution

Four years ago, precisely On April 24 2014, plastics were banned in Cameroon.

There were round table discussions on the issue and The Greens was very active in educating the population about the dangers of plastics and why it was necessary that plastics be banned in Cameroon.

But when you turn around every corner in every neighborhood, you can see plastics littered just everywhere.

Plastic pollution is one of the most important environmental problems that we face today. It impacts the environment and our health and wellbeing.

From poisoning and injuring marine life to disrupting human hormones, from littering our beaches and landscapes to clogging our waste streams and landfills, the exponential growth of plastics is now threatening the survival of our planet.

In response, The Greens in a bid to commemorate this year's Earth Day is dedicated to providing the information and inspiration needed to fundamentally change human attitude and behavior about plastics.

We have all contributed to this problem – mostly unknowingly – and we must work to reduce and ultimately to End Plastic Pollution.
On saturday, 14th of April 2018, The Greens launched her Earth Week activities with a special Green Radio edition that was focused on educating inhabitants of the North West Region of Cameroon about Plastics. The one hour radio program educated the people of the region about plastics, assessed the degree of plastic pollution in the city and educated the listeners about how they are contributing to the plastic pollution of the city of Bamenda. Next week, it shall educate them on what they can do to stop plastic pollution.

Stay tuned to more updates of our Earth Week Activities and remember to;

1. Refuse

Try as much as possible to refuse taking unwanted plastics or refuse plastics as much as you can.

2. Reduce

Reduce the amount of plastics you use. If you were using 10 plastics in a week, cut it down to less than 5.

3. Reuse

Try to reuse the plastics you already have. I encourage you to use only plastics that you can use over and over for multiple purposes.

4. Recycle

If you can't recycle your plastics, gather them and take them to a recycling firm.

5. Remove

Billions of plastics are already dumped in the earth and especially on land and in water bodies like our oceans. It will be great if you organize clean-ups and remove these plastics from Mother Earth
