It's quite fascinating that you wrote this tonight because, even before seeing this brilliant post, I have spent the last 5 hours researching Synereo and signing up for their newsletter. There are features in Synereo which I think far outshine Steemit and that is because I believe Synereo is being created with user preference and reputation as the forefront of the award system. Steemit I believe will fail if a few powerful whales (all occupying one narrow demographic) continue to be in control of monetary rewards. True influencers, not whales should be driving monetary rewards. This is Steemit's Achilles heel that will ultimately prove fatal. People coming into Steemit sense this, and they also realize that the odds are stacked against them, even if they are someone with extraordinary high reputation, lots of followers and lots of upvotes. The system in Steemit discounts this type of creative and influential force in favor of whale voting, which I think most would have to admit, is not done by true curators of the best content. The dissonance between being a developer and a discerning curator is a chasm that I think was not well thought out. If this site was created by creators of content (writers, community influencers, artists), I believe we would be in a different ship. Developers are not necessarily the best creators of culture, especially ones that mostly exhibit Vulcanesque personality types that are divorced from the majority of personality types. This creates an empathy-devoid culture that doesn't take stalking, and personal safety issues seriously, and thereby does not meet basic human needs like responsiveness, safety and peace of mind. It is for these reasons, I see Synereo as a superior endeavor thus far. I am very curious what the core differences in user experience will be and I'll be documenting these core differences in upcoming posts. I am excited to find new approaches and differing technologies in this space. This further indicates that centralized networks are on their way out.
Thank you for providing this excellent analysis. As always, I do appreciate your work, and if I could upvote it many more times, and if my reputation carried some financial aspect, I would be giving it to you. You save me so much research and work, so you have value, a great amount of value for me.

I have been following you for several weeks. I like how you write and your passion you put into your work. Thanks for that. As far as Steemit being compared to this new idea of Synereo and "being created with user preference and reputation as the forefront of the award system". This may be up front. It's so new in the process who really knows. Steemit, as far as I can tell, as only been around really since May and June for the earliest of users. July 4th and after for most of us. I think Steemit still has a lot up their sleeves and holding back some things from the master plan. Again, this is my opinion, but Steemit is trying a lot of things you can see and comment on but their is a lot of things in the background we can't see. What is going on in the mind of the Bitshares creator? What secret weapons do the developers of Steemit have waiting in the wings? What agreements does Steemit have with other platforms and other developers. We will have to see...... P.S. Keep writing and inspiring other authors. :)
