And so I say...

Ok so, since I'm still trying to find my feet, I thought I should share a story. So this is the story of how I came to be the game master for my current group.

It all started in either late spring or early summer of 2019. @generikat had a group of people meeting out at her place for various game night things, mostly Magic the Gathering. So one of the guys there is thinking about running a Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition game.

Now I am all kinds of down for a 5th Edition game, so I'm in. As well as about 7 (yes SEVEN) others, 4 of which are young adults who have never played before. For the purpose of the story, they will be referred to as "The Interns".

Now the Interns, they do not have a good time. They make a lot of new player mistakes, like "I'm a rogue, the darkness is my ally." and then fails a Stealth roll and gets eaten by 3 wolves or "Dude this hot chick we found in the dungeon wants to make out!" and then the succubus drains them. You know dumb kid stuff. They each go through like 3 characters over the course of summer.

Now the Dungeon Master is starting to get burned out, so I take over for a few sessions to give him a break. Now we were doing this weird ACQUISITIONS INCORPORATED™ game where I'm the leader of my team. So I decide to run a short "team building exercise" where my character DMs a one shot. Much fun is had and we return to the game, minus the Interns since they had to return to school.

So the we finish up the module that we were playing around November I think, the end of 2019 gets bit fuzzy as it was a thousand years ago. But the key thing to remember is that The Mandalorian is out now and everybody is onboard the Star Wars hype-train.

Cue me with my collection of Fantasy Flight Games Star War Role Playing Game books. I've had these books for years, but could never find anyone to play with on account of Narrative Dice system being so wonky. But with the Force all things are possible.

And so I say "Hey, I have the beginner game if anybody wants to try it."

Almost two years later, I'm still the game master and I'm getting ready to finish up our second campaign. Going to be moving on to a Genesys version of the d20 Modern's Urban Arcana setting next year. Nothing like a bit of magic and mayhem to start the new year.

Ahh, The Interns and the origin of Lord WP. Such great times, I still query the one intern about his succubus lesson and how it applies to real life when he and my son are receiving all manner of snaps from real life succubi. It's cause I care, he he!

And I so agree with JT, authentic post engagement and work ethic go a long way round here, I am sure you will find all sorts of cool peeps in no time. Not to sound too much like a trending page post, but I really do love Hive-land:)

@generikat I'm glad you still look after the Interns, they need it. Ha! And I think both you and @jacobtothe have the right of it, I need to find and interact with my people. I know they are out there, just gotta find them.

Do you have the gallery of gravestones still?

@jacobtothe I do. They are buried on the Book of Faces, but I can dig them up if people want to see them.

Don't be too surprised if it takes a while to build a following. Intro posts usually do OK, but a sort of doldrums might drag you down if you're not patient. I cannot emphasize enough that engagement with other posts is the best way to build relationships and establish yourself here successfully.

Maybe I should write another Hive Pope post. Ask away, and I may answer!
