Hola amigos de Hive, en esta oportunidad les estaré platicando sobre una nueva etapa en mis estudios en Cuba, las rotaciones por hospitales generales. Siendo el elegido para esta ocasión, el Hospital Joaquín Albarrán, conocido coloquialmente por el pueblo como el Clínico de 26. Una institución médica que cuenta con un área especializada en medicina nuclear, además de una afluencia de pacientes bastante elevada de la capital. Por lo que, a lo largo de esta ponencia, podrán apreciar las condiciones de trabajo del lugar y parte del equipo de estudiantes con los cuales colaboro.

El “Clínico de 26”, es un hospital docente clínico quirúrgico. Perteneciente a la red del sistema nacional de salud cubano, vigente desde 1961. Siendo en la Habana, un referente en la especialidad de la urología. Contando con un equipo técnico de la salud, en condiciones medias. El equipo tecnológico es bastante rudimentario, aunque se compensa por la calidad de especialistas que posee. Lamentablemente, el lugar goza de mala reputación debido a la alta tasa de defunciones que registra. Por lo que, gran parte de la población lo ha comparado con el hospital de la película de terror “SALA OCHO”.

Aún así, el hospital cuenta con un área designada al tratamiento de lo pacientes oncológicos. El cual presenta una amalgama rara, entre una tecnología precaria y un sinfín de especialistas envueltos en interminables reuniones de capacitación, dedicadas a la situación política del país, más que en el tratamiento de calidad para los pacientes. Sin embargo, la mayoría de los doctores y miembros del equipo de medicina nuclear, presentan un trato respetuoso y abnegado para con el trabajo y labor diaria.

Sin dudas, para mis compañeros y yo, las prácticas en este lugar se tornan un reto complicado. La situación de los equipos y la alta tasa de pacientes, dificultan en gran medida el aprendizaje. Siendo lo único positivo, la temprana atención al público y dificultades forjadoras de carácter, valores y abnegación. Que mi equipo y yo, esperamos solventar y ganar en conocimiento y capacidad, para un futuro mejor de la oncología cubana.

However, most of the doctors and members of the nuclear medicine team are respectful and self-sacrificing in their daily work.

Undoubtedly, for my colleagues and me, practicing in this place is a complicated challenge. The situation of the equipment and the high rate of patients make learning very difficult. The only positive aspect is the early attention to the public and the difficulties that forge character, values and self-sacrifice. That my team and I hope to solve and gain in knowledge and capacity, for a better future of Cuban oncology.
