Cheap lunch at Hotel Eger Park

It was time for autumn break last week in Hungary, and thus we went to visit the city of Eger. We have a favorite hotel in the city and it is called Hotel Eger Park. Actually residing in the hotel is quite expensive, but if you come as an outside guest to eat lunch, it is quite cheap!

For 1300 HUF we were served a three course lunch consisting of a traditional Hungarian soup, a main course (could choose from two types), and a cake.

The soup we ate was a paloc soup, a traditional Hungarian soup with vegetables. The taste was very good! For main course we could choose from fish and chips, and a bean stew with pork. I tasted both of them, and I was very satisfied.

The dessert was a cake like they often serve them in hotels, meaning not the nice looking cake, but a big cake cut into many small pieces. So, I would never visit this place to eat the cake we were served, but since it was a part of the lunch deal, it was still a nice little treat at the end of the meal.

All in all, it was a nice lunch eating traditional Hungarian food in a nice four star hotel, at a very nice price! Since the hotel has a giant restaurant, you do not have to worry about the place being packed, so a reservation isn't needed.

And do not forget, Eger is a great city with a fantastic inner town. Here you can walk around and do some shopping, eat nice food, and visit the castle that protected the city of Eger from the turks in the 16th century. And maybe more attractive to many people, it is a city with hundreds of wine makers, making it an ideal place for those who want to taste lots and lots of wine.

I guess I can wish you all a nice trip to Eger (you should go there)! :)

I wanted to travel this year to Budapest, Eger, Miškolc, Boldogko castle..... but something came up and maybe next year. Hungary has very good ( a bit spicy) food.

Thank you for the curation and tip... Eger, Miskolc and the region has lots of nice places to visit, so if you couldn't make it this year, I hope you will have the chance later. The food is very tasty but very seldom is it too spicy. You can, of course, get some Hungarian pepper that will make it spicy, but by default, the taste of the average meal in Hungary is quite harmless! :)

Well, not too spicy but more than we are used to. Last year I was a tourist (as a cycler) in cities like Sombotel, Sarvar, Gyor, Mosonmagyaróvár, Sopron... and one of the things I really loved was your food. Oh, I had Hungarian pepper at home. Rather not :D

Cycling is great, and since Hungary is so flat, it is ideal for such trips! :) Seems like you have been to places in Hungary I haven't been to yet, so that is great!

I’d like to travel; Can’t right now but the review just makes me want to more.

I have to check what the exchange rate is for a Huf, but the food looks worth it

1300 HUF is approximately 4 Euro, so it isn't a bad price for a three-course meal! :) Thanks for the upvote and your comment!

That works. 4 euros is 6 Canadian. That’s not bad, average meal out here is 14 to 17 Canadian.
