A new Malaysian restaurant recently opened up in Sydney's CBD and it's called Killiney Kopitiam (will be referred to as Killiney in this post). We just happened to be walking by and noticed this new restaurant was having a soft opening to check it out and it was good because there aren't alot of people who know about this new place so there wasn't much of a queue. We knew nothing about this place and only know that it was Malaysian. The only thing we really wanted to try was the teh tarik as we both love that drink.

Killiney is located in Central Park which is near a few universities. Being near universities meant there are alot of uni students in the are and the price of food would be affordable for the students too. Outside the restaurant, there is a menu for us to check out.

We had to place our order on a self service screens before collecting our ticket, go pay at the counter and then be shown to our table. In our opinion, this sort of controlled the people traffic and reduced work load for the staff but in a way it used up alot of time as people had to line up to use the self service screens. There were only 2 screens available and most people were indecisive so they took alot longer. Imagine on a busy day...

We were seated on high tables during our visit so we managed to get a view of the restaurant pretty well. Nice and simple interior. I'd love to suggest that they provided baskets or hooks under the high tables to hang bags or jackets.

Here came our food. Starting off with our teh tarik which is the Malaysian milk tea and kaya toast. Teh tarik was nice and the kaya toast was close to the good ones I had in Singapore. Kaya toast is usually eaten for breakfast or as a snack but we couldn't resist that fond memory of it. Glad we did try it!

This is the Fried Fish Fillet Laksa. We quite enjoyed the soup base of the laksa. A bit different from the ones we've had around Sydney.

Chicken curry roti. Liked the roti but curry was average.

If we knew the curry was the same as the roti, we would have just ordered something else. This was the Nasi Lemak Curry Chicken.

They provided very generous servings for the price we were getting it for and so we definitely over ordered this time. We didn't finish the curries but the laksa definitely went down a treat!

If you're in Sydney, craving some hearty Malaysian food for a decent price in Sydney's CBD, you can always visit Killiney.
