Tata Salt Battles Against Fake News and is Proved Not Guilty

The brand name, Tata Salt, is known globally. The company has never seen any involvement into a controversial matter until this recent unfortunate incident. Lately, Tata Salt faced severe allegations when their product was termed as “poisonous”.

Such accusations came from the chairman of Godhum Grains and Farm Products. He claimed that Tata Salt uses alarming levels of cyanides in their product, which could be harmful to consume.

Even before the concerned authorities could look into it, the news spread rapidly and was all over social media in no time. This led to massive confusion and panic among consumers.

This was not the first time when a renowned brand almost lost their reputation due to fake news. Earlier, Ashirvaad Ata, Kalyan Jewellers and Cadbury faced similar incidents. Fortunately, the truth was out, and they regained their position in the market.

Similarly, this time, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India or FSSAI, stepped up and refuted such allegations. They confirmed that the accusations are false since ferrocyanides are allowed to be used as food additives. Such compounds of cyanides act as anti-caking agents to prevent the accumulation of powdered ingredients. However, there are certain limitations in using ferrocyanides.

Using ferrocyanides in food-grade salts are also permitted in several other countries, including China, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Further, the test reports from American West Analytical Laboratories in the USA also verified that the levels of potassium ferrocyanide (PFC) present in the Indian food-grade salts are much below the permitted limit.

With such pieces of evidence and well-researched facts, it can be safely concluded that Tata Salt is not guilty of any such charges. Their product is entirely safe and healthy to consume daily.
