Elephants Invasion?!

Hello Steemians, how are you? It was like weeks ago since the last post. I was caught up with tonnes of workload in the office and did not have good rest recently. Yet, things should move on regardless of anything.

Let's start with our topic today. Our story today is about the Mother Nature. What does Mother Nature give us? It gives us clean air, provides us food source, provide us clean water and of course beautiful sceneries. There are lots of things that Mother Nature gives but do we appreciate them well?

Human civilization always has the tendency to make use of the environment and slowly destroy it. We build the schools, shops and houses in the forest without considering any consequences. Some of the people runs some plantation just nearby the forest. And it doesn't end well when something bad happens.

The recent elephants' invasion into the school in Telupid, Sabah for instance, it's a very typical example of what we have done to the Mother Nature. The locals complained about the destruction caused by the herds of elephants. Some elephants even entered the school compound and trespassing by destroying the fence of the school. (IMAGE FROM NST)

I have the opportunity to have a meeting with government officer who is from Wildlife Department. They showed me the travelling route of the wild elephants. For the project that I handle, the elephants will surely pass by that area and the officer actually wanted us to set up electrical fence along the travelling route to prevent the elephants to cross the road. I understand their intention. But, when I think twice, do the elephants trespass the civilization? Or our civilization trespass their life?

There are always a dilemma between development and preservation. Tug of wars happens all the time between these two elements. So, we have to figure out what values more than development AND include them in all the proposal of any development plan. This is a gentle reminder to all of the professional out there who involve in development. Sometimes, money doesn't buy happiness and values, but Mother Nature does give us priceless element which future generation needs them!

True, with countless developments going on in Sabah, it will be only a matter of time before we realize the damage has been done. What nature of project are you working on? Pan Borneo Highway? In Singapore, Netherlands and elsewhere around the world, a good solution could be an ecoduct. Something like below:
