Rising, Company of Aakash Odedra SOURSE
In Belgrade Dance Festival yesterday I was watching really interesting show by Company of Aakash Odedra. That show had fourth part and each of them are symbolize one part of humans life.
The name of that show is Rising. We can understand that in a lot of ways. The mains sense, can be rising of humans until the moment when they lose theirs own nature and become other creatures. This can also mean an elevation to Godship. Question is: how you can become close to Gad? What you have to do, if you want to lose your human nature and become something bigger and more important.
This show is performing by one artist, almost without objects on the stage. He is alone, with lights and beautiful calming music. This show is choreographed by: Russell Maliphant, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Akram Khan and Odedra himself.
Nritta
The name of first part is Nritta and its choreographed by the main dancer Aakash Odedra. This is symbolic in several ways. He is perfoming old Indian dance Katak - dance with pure energy, patience and passion. Nritta is divided into two elements: masculine and feminine. He tried to present the both of them, to become some kind of androgine creatures.
This dance is mixed with droplets of soft circular seductive moves belonging to God Shiva. Dance also symbolizes the cosmic cycles of creation and destruction. There you can feel rhythm of birth and death, all your life in one moment of time.
In the shadow of man
He is exploring there continuous fascination with the ‘animal’ we have within ourselves. As human beings, we continue to evolve from generation to generation, but ‘are we becoming more ‘human’ over time, or are we becoming more like ‘animals’?
What is in our nature close to animals – is the main question of this part of show Rising. He wanted to find a way to present our animal nature with our body.
Cut
He wanted to show with this part how you can present a calm and patience with dynamic moving of your body. We are watching from the audience a lot of movements in shadow and you are not sure, where the dancer is and where is his shadow. All those element are making some kind of mystical atmosphere.
Constellation
Lightning and thunder. Light and sound. Music and silence. All those elements are making big end of this magical show. Dancer is fighting with light, making movement who is representing, in metaphorical way, one big rising of body. Rising of light against the dark. By the flow of light and sound emanating from darkness and their return to that state.
Everything is starting in the dark and silent but big end is founded in light and sound.
Sun is coming in the end.
Sun of rising.
