ssd vs hdd

in #tech4 years ago

SSD provides much faster read/write speeds than traditional spinning disk drives. SSD's use flash memory chips instead of rotating disks. Flash memory is much faster than hard drives and offers faster access times. SSD's have no moving parts; they rely on solid state electronics technology. SSD's are also less susceptible to damage due to shock and vibration.
reliability improvements
SSD's offer higher levels of reliability over traditional hard drives. Traditional hard drives store data using magnetic fields to store information. These magnetic fields may become unstable if exposed to high temperatures or extreme vibrations. When these factors occur, the magnetic field will lose its power to write data to the drive. SSD's use non-volatile memory cells that do not require constant power to maintain their data. In addition, SSD's have fewer moving parts than traditional hard drives making them less likely to fail.
security improvements
SSD's are safer than traditional hard drives. Traditional drives use mechanical components to encrypt data. This encryption method requires additional steps to decrypt the data before it can be accessed. SSD's do not use any type of encryption, making them easier to hack. Additionally, SSD's are immune to physical attacks such as hacking and theft.
capacity improvements
SSD's provide greater storage space than traditional hard drives. SSD's are capable of storing larger amounts of data at once. Traditional hard drives store only one sector of data per rotation of the platter. SSD's store multiple sectors of data per rotation of their flash memory chip.
portability improvements
SSD's allow users to carry around their data without worrying about losing it. Traditional hard drives are heavy and bulky. SSD's are lightweight and small enough to fit inside laptops and portable devices.
