SpaceX, a US space technology firm, has filed a formal request with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a massive project to provide free Internet access to the world's population.
The company's inventor, Elon Mask, plans to launch the free Internet project after approval.
The company earlier unveiled the project, which needs to launch 4,000 satellites flying low orbits to cover as much of the globe as possible.
If the project is to be launched, the Internet will be available to everyone within five years.
