Flying by spinning propellers keeping you aloft is very inefficient. Flight is already inefficient.
Sooooo, why are they complaining about bitcoin mining and then turn around and do something that will dwarf it in energy consumption?
It is no doubt that small package delivery model companies "NEED" drones. (flying or driving)
They want to get rid of one of the biggest costs in delivery. People.
However, you quickly come problems that ... one size does not fit all.
Flying, buzzing, drones only works in areas that are already noisy.
They only work in areas that have high human density.
They only work in areas that are low in crime.
Unfortunately, there aren't many of these areas.
And package stealing is already becoming a big issue.
Snagging a drone is really easy and could be very profitable, depending on how much black market demand there is.
Just like self-driving cars, i see this is a dead end.
A "nice" idea for a time and place that no longer exists.
