Daily Opinion #6: The fall of cable TV is now in full swing

Cable providers can no longer keep up with the 'cord cutters'

cable is done

The amount of content available now through online streaming services is staggering. There's Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Go, Showtime, CBS All Access, and also DirecTV Now and SlingTV for those who want some 'traditional' live tv channel content.

If you add up the cost of all of these services (which is a lot of TV to choose from), you still come out less than the average 'full' package for cable TV. With devices like the Amazon Fire Stick/TV and the Roku starting around $30 US, it's easy for anyone to switch from cable TV to streaming services.

The old cable set top boxes are almost archaic at this point - they are totally dinosaurs. Slow, giant, ugly, feature-less, boxes that just need to be done away with now. I can't believe that cable providers haven't made an attempt to upgrade these things. All of the app-based services on both smart tv's and the Roku/FireTV are a MUCH better experience than these old cable boxes.

And that's the daily opinion.
