RE: Inventor That Changed The World - 🚗 Karl Benz 🏎

in #technology8 years ago

The origin of the world famous brand name Mercedes Benz lies with a little girl named Mercédès Jellinek, daughter of the businessman and racing driver Emil Jellinek.

At the turn of the century, Emil Jellinek bought his racing cars from Gottfried Daimler, the inventor and founder of the Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft. Mercédès , the name of his daughter, was initially only his pseudonym as a racing driver.

In 1900, when Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft developed a new engine from which Mr. Jellinek ordered 36 units - a major order for the time - it was decided to name the new vehicle Daimler-Mercedes.

The first Mercedes, a 35-hp racing car developed by Wilhelm Maybach, helped Emil Jellinek to become famous during Nice's 1901 racing week. In 1902, the name Mercedes was then registered as a trade name and protected by law.

So successful was the new brand that Mr. Jellinek received permission in 1903 to call himself Jellinek-Mercedes.

In 1926, due to the difficult economic conditions in the Weimar Republic, the merger between the hitherto independent companies Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft and Carl Benz & Cie.

This was the birth of the Mercedes Benz brand.
