News : AI help to resolve a crime in France

in #technology7 years ago

The 16th october 1984 in France, a little kid named Gregory was found drowned in a river named La Vologne. A case that has never been solved. With about 400 DNA samples collected in the research of the murderer, and 2000 anonymous letters, no man can think of this investigation and list every potential clue.

Yesterday, the 14th of June, with the help of artificial intelligence, 3 people were arrested.

This software is ANB (Analyst's Notebook). It was an office suite created a decade ago by I2, and then bought by IBM. It is especially used in resolving homicide, by centralizing information, comparing them, wich will prioritize every tasks.

This visual analysis tool brings features like social geospatial and temporal analysis.

This technology is interesting of course. But I think it's also scary. Imagine if this technology is upgraded to the point every enfringement is centralized, an how investigators could so easily resolve any case, by only asking to a computer if you are potentially suspect in a case or not. Is it really a good thing ?

I ask to you, what do you think of this ?
