DuckDuckGo vs Google...

I recently made the switch from Google to DuckDuckGo for my search engine needs on account of all the data collection that has been going on lately and i thought i would give my opinions and point out some pro's and cons from my experiences so far.

Pro's of using DuckDuckGo

• Grading websites according to their use of encryption, trackers and general privacy practises.

• They do not target users with tailored ads based on data obtained from trackers.

• An extension can be added on chrome to allow easy evaluation of a website by displaying a grade from A-D (Facebook and Google have a D whereas DuckDuckGo have an A grade)

Cons of using DuckDuckGo

• Not as versatile as Google, e.g. looking up the definition of a word pops up after a search in Google but DuckDuckGo just provides links.

• DuckDuckGo are not as well known as Google though they have a good reputation.

Pro's of using Google

• They have new and interesting art on the homepage, todays one honours Fanny Blankers-Koen who was a multiple time olympic gold medalist (see below).

• Familiarity makes it easy to use for the most part.

Cons of using Google

• Google are known to use trackers that allow the collection of data such as a users online activity then sell this data without the users knowledge and being spied on is one of my pet peevs.

• Too large and pervasive for my liking.
