Today I’m going to talk about a technology called “Li-Fi”. Which can give you more powerful and Hi-speed internet. So without wasting time, Let’s go..

LiFi is transmission of data through Light, sending a data through a LED bulb that varies intensity faster than human eye can follow.
LiFi can be thought of as a light based WiFi. That is uses light instead of radio waves to transmit data. LiFi use transmitter fitted LED lamps that can light a room as well as transmit and receive data instead of WiFi modems.
The technology found during the 1990’s in Germany, Korea and Japan where they discovered LED’s could be retrofitted to send information. “ Prof. Harald Hass” wow the world with the potential to use light for communication.

❊ Working Of LiFi :

LiFi’s operational procedure is very simple, if the LED is on you transmit a digit 1,if its off you transmit a digit 0. The LED's can be switched on and off very quickly, which gives nice opportunities for transmitting data. Thus, every light source will works as a hub for data transmission.

❊ Advantages Of LiFi :

LiFi provides 10000 times wider bandwidth than the Wi-Fi. The light sources of LiFi are already installed so, no need of well-equipped equipment and gives good capacity.
LED bulbs have low energy consumption. So, data transmission through it can be very cheap and affordable. It ha less maintaining cost and low implementation cost. It has high rate of transmission of information upto 10 Gbps can be succeeded.
LiFi provides high security because the light cannot travel through walls and cannot misuse it.
Light is inherently safe and can be used in places where radio frequency communication is problematic, like operation theatre in hospitals or aircraft cabin.

❊ Application Of LiFi :

The whole world airways communication are performed on the radio waves. So, here LiFi can solve the problem. It provides high speed internet to passengers with affordable charges.
LiFi can be used underwater remotely operated vehicles, also it helps to manage traffic where it could communicate with the lights of vehicles.
WiFi is not used in operation theaters because the radiations are hazardous to the patient’s health and LiFi will very helpful in performing robotic operations.
The future application of LiFi still can be extended because of so many advantages of it.

❊ Challenges And Limitations Of LiFi :

Light can’t pass through objects.
A main challenge facing LiFi is how the receiving device will transmit back to transmitter.
Interference of external light source, like normal bulbs and sun light. They will cause interruption in data transmission.
LiFi technology can be explore further if we put it into practical use and make numerous possibilities to use it. Every bulb can be used like a WiFi-Hotspot to transmit data.

Let’s hope we can use this LiFi technology in future and take benefits of it.
