RE: DARPA Openly Flaunting AI Driven Cognitive Driving... WTF

in #technology3 years ago (edited)

I'm impressed with the technology. I won't lie. The race to AI is a race to an unforeseen scenario with unforeseen circumstances at its current rate. It reminds me of my studies on the development of nuclear energy.

Humanity definitely pursued the tech in the wrong manner. Driven by a push towards weapons development, we went from a relatively messy means of quick powerful fission through Uranium-238/235 instead of developing cleaner methods through Thorium. We could have avoided catastrophes like SL-1, Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, and Fukushima. I wonder if, under this revisionist example, we could have had nuclear propulsion in space.

The difference between our faulty pursuit of nuclear energy and AI is that there is an end to the nuclear reaction despite its use in weapons development. Abuse, misuse, or unregulated development would see an end to our society the likes of which nuclear negligence could achieve.

Great article and thanks for the video. I'm loving your work at Psyber X.

I just wanted to point out that unless physics has changed, the use of nuclear propulsion in space remains potential.

Thanks!

You're very welcome. The human race needs to let go of distractions and pettiness. The things we could have done without the turmoil we cause are wonderous.
