WPA 3 Wifi Standard Released

in #technology6 years ago

The Wi-Fi Alliance formally released the new standard in Wi-Fi security called WPA 3. There are two standard protocols used to protect WI-Fi networks, WEP and WPA. WEP was consider insecure for years and was recommended never to be used as it could easily be cracked. WPA was the preferred protocol to secure Wi-Fi networks and recently hackers found a way to crack WPA 2 encryption fairly quickly.

WPA 2 vulnerabilities

The Wi-Fi Alliance quickly worked on a new standard (WPA3) to counter what is called the KRACK attack that makes WPA2 vulnerable. The last WPA update was 13 years ago when WPA2 was announced. The KRACK attack allows a hacker to decrypt Wi-Fi data secured with WPA 2 without knowing or obtaining the password. This means changing the password will not protect you against this attack. Considering the world is largely run on Wi-Fi this is a serious concern that affects everyone using Wi-Fi.

What does WPA 3 offer?

  • WPA 3 is designed to prevent KRACK attacks and increased protection against brute-force attacks.

  • It increases security by preventing attackers from decrypting old traffic after obtaining the Wi-Fi password.

  • Increased security through individual data encryption. This encrypts traffic to and from the access point to your device.

  • Increased encryption security with WPA 3 Enterprise that allows 192-bit encryption.

  • Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is replaced with a Wi-Fi Easy Connect, a more secure Wi-Fi setup protocol for easy setup of devices. Easy Connect uses QR codes and your smartphone to set up new devices.

When is it available?

Devices supporting WPA3 won't be released till later this year, and it will be a long time until all devices support it. Many accessories are just finally getting WPA2 support.

That's some pretty good news. WPA2 has done well for so long, but with it is starting to be breakable it is time to upgrade.

@themarkymark Top manufacturers will soon implement wpa3 in their smartphones and devices, but in this world nowadays everything can be cracked at some point of time, lets see what happens in future

Wifi is the best network plateform.

Unique technology...

i give it under a month, before someone cracks it.. trouble is nothing is 100% secure. theres numerous ways a techie can get someones wifi, and usually its against the ones who dont fully understand how.

It took 12 years for WPA2 to be really cracked

indeed... can remember the wpa original only needing under 10 lines of code, that took moments..

WEP was the first standard in a very new technology at the time, it was weak and poorly designed. WPA improved on it a lot and WPA2 was a great improvement.

But it took a while to figure out those 10 lines...

@ themarkymark.this wifi call me too much tension since I work with this very good friend thanks for sharing I will try to follow you more of serca success @themarkymark

@themarkymark its best technology for we

Excelente Post , eso mantendrá nuestra Red de manera Segura y bueno que cada ves tenemos tecnologías de seguridad de acuerdo a nuestras necesidades.

Excellent information good job congratulations

HAckers Always find a way to bypass security. That's amazing!
Lets see when WPA 3 become vulnerable ?

Took 12 years to really break WPA2.

Right but you cant say how much time it will take to break WPA 3.

@themarkymark nice information you share.
Hope that WPA3 also go as long as WPA2

Does anyone know where to see the specifictions?

That's some pretty good news. WPA2 has done well for so long, but with it is starting to be breakable it is time to upgrade.
