Television was, for a very long time, the main source of my entertainment. Since I was a kid, I had the fortune of having cable TV and being able to enjoy great cartoons and different shows from the good old days before everything turned into pure streaming services. I always remember being with my grandmother watching Dragon Ball Z on a huge tube TV late at night. She didn’t understand anything that was happening in that anime, but she truly appreciated the time we spent together. I got to see the beginning of great cartoons like Regular Show, Adventure Time, Avatar, The Amazing World of Gumball, etc., etc.
There were also series that, as a kid, didn’t interest me much, but today I consider myself a big fan of, since as an adult I can understand them much better, like House M.D., Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, and surprisingly My Little Pony. As a kid, I used to think that certain series weren’t for me, either because of their aesthetic or because of bad ideas I had about them, but as I grew up I understood that that meant nothing. I started to enjoy spending more time watching the shows and understanding their message rather than judging them based on prejudice. I also understood that many works simply weren’t meant for my age; I wouldn’t have understood them as a kid, it was necessary to grow much more.
Television evolved a lot, but its peak lasted until streaming services took over everything. Don’t get me wrong, they’re much better than watching ads; but man, even ads used to be quite original, and my family and I would end up remembering them by their songs. Nowadays, you have to pay for several services if you want to watch something specific or good, or well, end up like me watching all the Rocky movies on YouTube. Anyway, those were times when the internet, at least on this side of the pond, wasn’t very normalized yet despite the existence of cyber cafés. Having your own computer was actually pretty rare in lower-class families. In the end, those are times that have already passed, and I truly hope they don’t come back. It was great to watch anything, but like everything in life, it gets updated. Thanks for watching, see you another time.
.......
