Finally Experiencing Full Self-Driving on My Tesla Cybertruck

After what felt like an eternity of waiting, I finally got to experience Full Self-Driving (FSD) mode on my Tesla Cybertruck! When the Cybertruck first launched, FSD wasn’t included in the software, which was disappointing but understandable given the complexities of rolling out new technology. Then, when Tesla did introduce FSD for the Cybertruck over the summer, I only got a brief taste before a bug disabled it entirely—right before a road trip, no less!

That set off a long wait filled with service visits and software updates. Three trips to the service center and months later, my Cybertruck was finally FSD-ready. The moment the update rolled in, I wasted no time—I activated it on my very first drive to work.

First Impressions: A Glimpse into the Future

Driving with FSD for the first time felt surreal. Even though I had seen countless videos and discussions about Tesla’s autonomous capabilities, actually experiencing it firsthand was something else. The system handled turns, stops, and accelerations impressively well, adapting to real-world driving conditions better than I expected.

But the real test came on my recent road trip.

Taking FSD on the Open Road

I wanted to push FSD further, but I also preferred to test it under ideal conditions—light traffic, minimal construction, and long highway stretches. Of course, in Florida, that’s easier said than done! Still, I found a few 25-30 mile stretches where the Cybertruck could really show its potential.

Here’s what stood out:

  • Smooth and Confident Lane Changes: I was especially impressed with how well the Cybertruck handled passing slower vehicles. It felt calculated, deliberate, and—honestly—safer than how I usually pass.

  • Speed and Route Management: It adjusted speed smoothly, responded to upcoming turns naturally, and never felt unpredictable.

  • Traffic Awareness: Even in moderate traffic, it handled merging and spacing exceptionally well, making the ride feel effortless.

The Future Is Here

Driving with FSD on my Cybertruck made me appreciate just how far Tesla has come in autonomous technology. While no system is perfect, Tesla still remains the clear leader in self-driving capabilities. With every update, it only gets better, bringing us closer to a future of safer and more efficient roads.

We may not have flying cars yet, but moments like these remind me that the future we once imagined is already here.

Nice!
I hope to spot a Cybertruck in Europe soon.
Bright future for Tesla with Robocabs and Optimus.

It still is exciting to see them on the road even when I am in one myself!

Not easy to register them in EU because of lack of homologation so it usually have to be a lot effort. Although there are Cybertrucks registered in Poland already.

Yes, just looked it up.
Not allowed in the Netherlands because of sharp edges.
And you need a Truck drivers licence.

In Poland regular driving license (category B) is enough, but we had that extended allowance (EU has made it optional for member states to allow EVs up to 4250kg on a cat B license). But to me it's just a curiosity, I don't have use cases for such a car. TM3 is a little too big to me, and X barely fit my garage. :-)

Yes, I like to see for myself how huge it is.
But I have to wait to spot one in Europe.
