Design according to Vincent is a "means of ordering visual and emotional experience to give consistency to a work of art and to allow the observer to comprehend its meaning. This observers' affecting much not only be initially attracted but also held long enough to perceive all the parts of the work and to comprehend their significance individually and as an aspect of the whole." (21).
Arnheim agrees to this when he says that,"design is a conscious activity guilded by its aim and objectives. It refers to planned and organized actions intended to bring about same predetermined outcome from which there may also be accidental or unexpected result." (21).
Citing Adesina in journal of theatre design and technology, "theatre as a building is seen as a place where plays are performed, watched by the audience and where all technical elements, through creative deployment, are used. These elements are given attention in the specialized field of technical theatre". (80)
Technical theatre as mentioned above encompasses all that goes into making of stage production" (wikibooks.org) because theatre is a collaboration of all arts form, technical theatre includes all the visual and aural-visual aspect of the theatre. Milly assert that "designers collaborate with the director to focus the audience's attention on the actor in a special environment ... they create the actor's environment and make the play's world visible and interesting to us".
