This is always a hard one.
"Three Felonies a Day", a book written by a lawyer about how we all commit three felonies every day, usually without even knowing.
So, a police officer just has to follow you long enough, and you are going to jail / being fined.
For this terror, does the police balance it out with protecting the community?
The reality is very hard to measure, and not what most people expect.
City police don't even investigate every murder case. They don't have the manpower.
But, what everyone thinks about cops comes from Hollywood movies.
The police officer's life is nothing like that. The police officers i have met are nothing like that. They all uphold laws that are known to be wrong, morally and legally.
"But I know a cop, and he's a good guy!"
Maybe when he's at home. Maybe he even tries to be more Andy than Barney on the beat. But be honest. SS officers were also family men who just wanted to go home to their wives and children at the end of the day, too. And all they did was enforce the law.
The most telling fact to me is that the most anti-cop people I have known were ex-cops.
