One school we went to had a candy store next door to it also, except it wasn't full of candy as described in your story. Looked like an old store that once actually had a thriving life, you always felt like you were walking back in time going in there. It was run by an old lady who filled a couple shelves with penny candy, couldn't have been making a living off it, maybe just something to keep her busy. There was another old lady who lived across from it, she'd go there to get candy to bribe (she didn't have to try hard) us to take her mail down a couple blocks to a post box. I always like those chocolate, strawberry, vanilla coconut candies, they were hard as heck too. Chicory Sticks, and those ice cream pies, though the pies were like thirty six cents, all three of those items I use to get excited about as a kid, later in life running across them, you really can't taste the chocolate, strawberry, vanila as much as the coconut and sugar, and the other two pretty much was sugar with the chicory stick being the worse, I don't even know how I ate those.
