Stank-Away is one of the media projects developed by Amber Banks, Reilley McCann, Devon Robertson, Eike Brüning, and I. The project focused on a device marketed as "Stank-Away" which would reduce any emissions of air pollution through a filtration system. The ultimate goal would be to reduce levels of air pollution within communities. We've developed an advertisement as our media piece using piktograph (presented in this blog) as well as the proposal which goes more in depth into our goals.
The group began with the concept of reducing emissions from farms in towns such as Guelph so that the smell of manure wouldn't be as prominent during certain times. However, the concept felt too narrow and the group didn't seem perfectly satisfied with the idea, so Reilley's proposed beginning to the concept developed into a more universal air filtration system. Since the idea which we were discussing was for a product, we felt it was most effective to raise awareness of it using a graphic advertisement.
Within our proposal we outline our problems, and mainly the issue of air pollution is presented. We recognize that it negatively affects the citizens health and quality of life, however the dangers which we're causing to nature with these emissions is also presented.
Our solutions specifically focus on where the product could be effective, and how we plan on the product being distributed. We would target both the general market and organizations, encouraging both industrial and personal use, to ultimately attempt at reducing as much of the polluted air as possible. Furthermore, while developing these ideas we found certain sources to provide evidence in regards to the dangers of air pollution. One of the particular sources used in the advertisement was Eurostat, which provided the current reduction rates of emissions from agriculture.
Finally the product itself would be implemented using ozone generators for smell reduction in areas for agriculture, an exhaust fan to help in promoting proper air exchange within an indoor room or in a greenhouse set-up for proper carbon dioxide exchange, and an air purification system which would be installed as a preventative method for mold growth and other problems caused by stagnant air.
Overall our goal is to clean the air which surrounds us every day to improve the overall quality of life of the population.
