Travel India through TikTok's #YehMeraIndia

Most of us aspire to travel. When the subject of travel crops up at a dinner table, everyone has a place put in their bucket list. While many may talk of seeing the northern lights or the pyramids, there is also a large population that loves exploring India’s rich diversity. After all, India is a land that boasts of oceans, seas, rivers, plains, hills, mountains, and valleys. Let’s face it, not many countries boast of such diversity. The pictures speak for themselves, and so do the videos that are shared by millions of travellers.

Little did you know that you can explore India on TikTok, the world's leading platform for short-form mobile videos. TikTok recently announced the India edition of its global in-app travel campaign, #TikTokTravel. The local in-app campaign #YehMeraIndia showcases India as a key global travel destination by inviting TikTok users to share their travel moments with the world. With TikTok’s easy to use interface with high quality editing tools and wide user base, Kerala Tourism also joined in on the campaign to launch its official TikTok account to promote the state’s tourism.

Travel with TikTok

TikTok has become increasingly popular for showcasing authentic travel moments, with over hundreds of thousands of videos posted under the #travel and a total of over 2.5 billion views. These videos range from creators interacting with nature in various ways, to immersing themselves in different cultures such as tasting street food, to trying their hand at uniquely local experiences. Here are some of the videos shared by TikTok users:

An aerial view: TikTok user @anisippi shared this view of their aeroplane about to land at West Bengal’s Bagdora airport. The blue sky and the heavy clouds that look like they are about to kiss the horizon make for a lovely video. You can check it out here.

Serpentine road: This video shared by TikTok user @droneholic shows a serpentine road at Valparai in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district. As the TikTok username suggests, the video has been shot on a drone and gives you a fantastic view of the ghats below. The road is so coiled, one person in the comments section initially thought that it was a snake. Watch the video here

The pilgrimage: For many, a trip to Vaishno Devi is sacrosanct. People trek up for days on end to get a darshan, collect Gangajal and return satisfied. TikTok user @kunal_xl took a step further by climbing some more feet to shoot the temple from a distance. The video has garnered 212,000 likes so far. Watch it here.

Born Free: One thing that India can boast of is its diverse wildlife. India boasts of lions, tigers, leopards, and even panthers. There are rhinos, deer, bison, elephants, and a wide variety of birds that can be found in the wilderness. TikTok user Chirag Sharma, who appears to be a wildlife enthusiast, shared this incredible close-up video of a lioness, which appears that it was taken in Gir Forests in Gujarat.
