Topic: Delwynn Dragonscale - NEW Dragon Summoner with +1 Magic Attack - Too Expensive with 5 Mana?
Delwin Dragonscale: +1 Magic / 5 Mana
Today we have gotten the new SEED Germinator promo cards for the Dragon splinter. Among them was Delwynn Dragonscale, a common summoner with +1 Magic attack. That is really cool, because it brings a mana-buff to all other splinters, as Dragon is always playing with one of the other five splinters.
Mana Costs Too High?
However, right at the announcement already, the high mana costs of 5 Mana jumped right our attention. This is on par with the legendary summoners from the Beta edition, in terms of mana costs, who all come with +3 different stats. I doubt that Delwyn will be as powerful as the other 5 mana summoners.
The Splinterlands team justified the high costs with the power of Magic attack, which avoids shields entirely. It makes it more valuable than the +1 Melee Attack from Malric Inferno. The Dragon summoners are more expensive, which seems odd, considering the fact that Selenia Sky costs 3 mana with her +1 Range attack, equaling all other rare sommoners so far with their +/- 1 buff/debuff. Daria Dragonscale already costs 4 Mana for +1 Melee attack, although I would value Melee and Range attack equal, regarding the powerful range attacks in the game (as we can all see with the super dominant cards Prince Rennyn and Selenia Sky both giving +1 Range attack).
Delwyn is now even one mana higher than Daria, following the previous unbalance of buff values for Dragon summoners. And finally, the mystery card, Archmage Arius, has three debuffs (+1 Melee, Range and Magic) and costs only one mana more than Delwyn, although much stronger.
Let's Test The Dragon Summoners
It is a little bit early to shout nerf, but we should open the discussion about that. I invite everyone to test this new card on the battlefield and add your opinion here.
Personally, I think that the entire Dragon splinter needs a summoner cost redesign. Either Selenia is too cheap, or Daria and Delwyn are too expensive. I tend to think that Daria and Delwyn are too expensive but this is something the community needs to test and voice their opinions.
Reply to Delwynn Dragonscale - NEW Dragon Summoner with +1 Magic Attack - Too Expensive with 5 Mana?
I think its important to note that the new dragon promo summoner is a Common card so it can't be as good as a rare summoner.
The current rare dragon summoner cost 4 Mana and has one buff. It makes sense to me that the common summoner would cost 5 Mana with a buff. If the mana was to go any lower then the buff would need to be removed as to keep the order of things in place (common< Rare < Epic < Legendary)

I agree with all your points. A common summoner has by definition a lower value and/or usability. Maybe that is indeed reason enough to keep it at its 5 mana costs. Because that would equally enable the game to bring out much more powerful summoner for even less mana, on the epic or even legendary level.
The prices haven't stabilized yet but at the moment, Delwyn costs twice as much as Daria Dragonscale, another Dragon summoner but with epic rarity. Delwyn should drop in value over the next time, to truely fulfill its role as a cheap entry summoner for the Dragon splinter, way below the price of the epic Daria. There are plenty on the market now to support that theory. We will see.
It is certainly a powerful card and is offering tons of new combination possibilites. Maybe 5 mana is justified afterall. ;)

For me Delwynn should cost 4 mana, just like Daria. Delwnynn gives +1 magic for each color, and Daria +1 attack for each color. So, should Selenia also cost 4 mana? In my opinion, from the point of view of the game, it's better as it costs 3 points, because if it cost 4 it would be weak compared to Prince.
Another thing is that Delwynn, costing 5 mana points, seems to be a weak solution considering the legendary summoners for 5 mana or Archius Arius for 6 mana.

I do get this point and I think it is a problem to argue that way because it kind of ignores the usability of a card. From a gaming perspective are 5 mana a lot and equal to the costs of the
supreme deitieslegendary summoners. Is this really justified? It makes Delwyn look pale and small next to them. Putting the rarity aspect into a summoners usefulness makes Delwyn potentially a card little used by the players, as it is the only common summoner card. I might be wrong, we have to test that.View the topic on TokenBB

Currently the price is jumping between 0.09 - 0.14 for the non gold version (Daria is currently 0.40) and I think its likely we may see it go lower. The gold version is only $3.00 (I think its a steal at $3 price and am a little shocked it dropped that low so fast).

I have played a few times with Delwyn Dragonscale and had a lot of fun. It really enables a whole new field of possibilites to create powerful teams. I didn't feel like I was missing out on Mana points, regarding the strength I got. Still a lot of testing to do but I think Delwyn will find its place in top level teams.
Maybe it is time for me to admit that I cried for nerf to early. All-in-all a great card and I am happy to have it maxxed.
Do you mean FOMO for not being able to sell the cards and hence dumping them for cheap on the market?
