A haunted island in the South of Mexico with hundreds of dolls as its only residents. The remote island is called ”Isla de las Munecas” (The Island of the Dolls). It is potentially one of the creepiest places one could visit.
In the 1950’s Don Julian Santana, the caretaker of the island, found a little girl floating in one of the canals nearby. The girl had drowned, and the locals didn’t just find her death tragic, but the circumstances of her death seemed odd. Soon after, the caretaker found a doll floating in the same canal. As the doll probably belonged to the girl that drowned, he hung the doll to one of the trees of the island in pursuit of honouring the spirit of the girl.
This whole experience left the caretaker as a changed man, as though an external force had effected him. He started to feel as though there was something unexplainable that had started to reside on the island.
Alone on the island, in his hut, he started to hear sounds. It could be sounds of someone walking, whispering and its anguished wails. In an attempt to please the spirit he began to collect the dolls he found in the canals and hung them all around the island. He kept on doing it for the next 50 years.
In 2001, Don Julian Santana was found dead. He had drowned in the same spot as the girl he had found.
Through the years, the locals have accumulated a lot of experiences of the possessed island. They tell the stories of how they felt lured to island by the dolls. Those who visit surely get marked by some sort of impression.
