Chang Mai over the decades has evolved to make you think it is a country within a country and a city that can charm you to call it home. Almost everything you need, you can’t fail to see.

Founded in 1296 as the capital of the ancient Lanna Kingdom, it is strategically located in the deep mountains in the northern part of Thailand lurking behind misty mountains that offer an excellent cooling breeze that spree up every morning on a good day, It has become a top tourist destination.

The old tradition, the ancient temples and culture of the local people have proved to be easily fused with the contemporary developments of this modern day. There are no sand beaches in Chang Mai. So what is it about Chang Mai that has seen an enormous number of digital nomads, tourists, and expats travel to this country to blow away some dollars?

Chang Mai has demonstrated that it is the Mecca of digital nomads. There are hundreds of destination one can travel to for fun, work and adventure but for this specific Asian country, the hospitability of the local people has put many under a spell to keep on making return journeys or overextending their stay. The government to further meet the demand has proceeded to construct state of the art recreation and accommodation facilities, which come at a cheaper cost of renting. Regardless of a change in prices over the years due to increased foreigners, this has not reduced the number of foreigners flocking to Chang Mai as one of their dream destinations.

This city over the years has seen loads of nomad communities forming groups on all the social media platforms. Such groups were started up by long-time digital nomads to help a newbie in Chang Mai to easily comb the streets and get to know where and how to access the basic infrastructures. The city at the same time does have exceptional co-working spaces. To access the working spaces comes at a fee that I bet can’t bleed out your budget. Digital nomads understand that an internet connection is like what an artery does to the heart. This brings me to the next vital reason why this city is nothing compared to other cities.

The internet speed is remarkable. In a study carried out, it was discovered that Thailand in all the Asian countries ranks 2nd as the country with the fastest internet speed. The same study concluded that the broadband speeds in Thailand are faster than some countries like United Kingdom, France, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, and China.

Chang Mai has the lowest crime rate at only 16.23%, making it a haven for both male and females. Worried that your apartment will be broken into, high chances are that will not happen to you. The only high crime rate in Chang Mai is corruption. If you’re looking for trouble to get busted by the police, bribing will get the job done.

Chang Mai has unheard of magnificent climate and weather. A good getaway from the harsh climate of your home area, this city will not disappoint. Most of the fresh vegetables and food are grown in the mountains deliver such a great flavor and scent to your homemade or bought meals because of this exquisite climate.

The open space and slow life (like some call it) in Chang Mai allows you to interact with likeminded people. Like I mentioned earlier, digital nomads working in all professions of life who are in high demand can be easily located in co-working spaces. You will have the once in a perfect opportunity to learn from those who are better than you, and maybe you also get to teach them a thing or two so that you don’t look like someone who does not know what you are talking about. So meeting likeminded brains in this hidden city is a blessing.

And lastly, the cost of living is affordable. $1 is equivalent to 30.86 Thai Baht. With $100-500 in your pocket, trust me, you can have the blast of your entire life in Chang Mai and live to tell the tale.
