Grand Hyatt Shanghai - A High-End 5-Star Skyscraper

in #travel6 years ago

Shanghai Grand Hyatt Jin Mao Tower (金茂君悦) is an 88-floor and octagonal shape skyscraper, which was designed by an American architect with Chinese traditional lucky number 88 in mind (The number of 88 means "Make a fortune" in China.) It was open 20 years ago and is a non-smoking hotel with 555 rooms that are all located above the 54th floor. The observation deck (a $120 Yuan ticket can be purchased for visiting) is at the 88 floor. I stayed there for two nights in December, 2001. It still looks new today.

The hotel check-in lobby is at the 54 floor.
The Grand Cafe at the 56th floor from which you can view many high-rise buildings and the Bund where you can see many evening sightseeing tour boats with many decorating colorful bulbs or LEDs passing by, offers great seafood buffets at $398 Yuan + 15% service fee for dinner as well as brunch on weekends. Almost no seating was available on Sunday's brunch and dinner time I observed yesterday.

The Grand Club (嘉宾轩), often known as Executive Lounge or Club in other hotels, located at the 83 floor, offers an amazing view of many high-rise buildings. This is the top Executive Lounge most JW Marriott Executive Lounges may not be able to beat. For example, a waitress often would like to offer to make a Latte or Cappccino for you and bring it to your desk, if she is seeing you trying to make one. Amazingly, this self-made machine produces a Latte with a three-color layer. That's a kind of art by using an opaque glass.

The Club Oasis Fitness Center and indoor swimming pool are located at the 57 floor.

You can walk from the Grand Hyatt to Shanghai World Financial Culture & Media Center where Park Hyatt Shanghai with about 170 rooms without an Executive Lounge is located. That is another reason I prefer to stay at Grand Hyatt Shanghai.

The hotel has a good security system because guests can only go to their own floor with their own room key. All staff are well trained and very friendly I met yesterday and today.

It is worth mentioning that Jakob Hirschmann, front office manager, can handle various issues timely and professionally.

The Wi-Fi speed is amazing. I will rate this hotel as a 5-star plus in the Trip Advisor's rating system, if there were one.

A walking distance from the hotel to the subway station #2 is about 10 minutes.

After seeing the sky from the Grand Club, I realized that the blue sky in downtown Los Angeles or Santa Monica beach in Los Angeles is 10 times better than in...
