Our (nearly) free trip to Cabo, Mexico!

in #travel6 years ago

My wife and I recently spent some time in Los Cabos Mexico for our wedding anniversary. We got in on a free stay in a time share resort. Yes, it was free!

We were expecting to stay in a nice place, since we had already stayed in a Welk resort in San Diego, but at the last minute they called us up and said they needed to move us to another hotel to give priority to time share holders. I was thinking oh no! What kind of dump are we going to end up in?!

As it turns out, they put us in the Hilton Resort… this place was absolutely amazing! We had an incredible sea view, gorgeous room with a Jacuzzi tub, plus three restaurants and a Starbucks on site. We were blown away!!! We would have paid for this!!

The hotel building was unbelievable, open corridors with cool sea breeze blowing, marble floors and incredible art everywhere. Plus two pools both with walk up bars and private beach with another bar. It was seriously like something out of a Bond movie! I love this kind of architecture and being my first post on steemit, I plan to post a lot about the amazing buildings I have seen all over the world.

We literally just spent most of our time relaxing by the pool drinking Coco Locos. We could see manta rays jumping out of the water, whales and dolphins swimming in the distance and the most incredible sunsets you’ve ever seen.

On our third day in Cabo we ventured out for a tour of the local area, with lunch and a glass bottom boat tour. Our tour guide was an amazing man who really helped us to gain an authentic Mexican experience, not just the typical resort and tourist spots. He took us to both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo and we stopped for a Tequila tasting, a tour of a glass blowing factory, divorce beach and lover's beach, El Archo, lunch at a local restaurant and some shopping.

All in all it was simply one of the best vacations my wife and I have ever been on!

So why was it free? Well nothing is this world is never really free - we did have to spend two hours listening to a salesman - who was actually a really interested and lovely person to sit down and have a chat with. And we got free breakfast, coffee and another day by the pool at a different resort... There was also the actual cost of flights to get there. We got this stay free because we previously stayed at the Welk Resorts in San Diego last year, declined the time-share offer, and then they sent us a voucher for a free stay in Cabo! It was so nice in San Diego that we couldn't say no! We did say no to the time share though, even though it was a hard sell.

So free/not free, it was an absolutely wonderful trip!
