This is a 7 mins video that summarizes a nearly 2 hours, 345 kilometers journey from Taipei to Zuoying (Kaohsiung) in Taiwan. It is edited from 20+ clips I took on the train. I did not try to present the best side of Taiwan's landscapes, on the contrary, I hope to let you see the real Taiwan - a place with beautiful mountains, green rice fields as well as misaligned buildings and industrial plants with chimneys ... They are all part of this land, part of us.
The music in this video is Going Forward by Lin Chiang (1990), who is a very important figure in Taiwan's music history. This classic song says about how young people leave their hometown in the south and travel north to Taipei city to pursue dreams and better lives without fear. That was the classical stories of the 80-90s back then. Although the direction of my train is the opposite to the song and there wasn't even a high speed rail system at that time, we all remember how trains and stations used to carry a lot of meaning in them because that's where our lives go separate ways, start a new chapter or where we finally get to see each other again.
This video salutes to anyone out there who leaves their homes to pursue a better job but their hearts never leave their loved ones at home.
Oh, I said "@Dtube" because that's what I originally planned, but somehow the site keeps crashing while uploading (maybe it's my computer's problem), so I go with the old way - Youtube. Sorry dtube guys... :)

拍攝時間大約是三週前，我沿途拍了20多段短影片，今日集結而成。原本是要發Dtube，但上傳影片網頁一直失敗，我只好回頭用Youtube了...
拍攝與後製時並未特別刻意呈現美好的一面，相反地，我希望能忠實呈現出台灣的樣貌。
這塊土地上，確實有美麗的景致：遠處在雲霧中的中央山脈，桃園這千湖之縣的波光粼粼，苗栗穿梭層巒間的山洞，嘉南平原台灣米倉的廣闊稻田....
但與此同時，雜亂的建築物、鐵皮的工廠、堆疊的垃圾回收場、煙囪高聳的工業區等等.... 也都一一在目。
好的與不好的，都是一起的。土地無言，人間有愛，也有礙。這都是我們的過去、現在，甚至是看得見的未來。
這塊土地，就是我們成長的地方，這裡有純樸的人們，真摯的情感，如果你也帶著真摯的情感，靜下心來，感受她，傾聽她，擁抱她，那麼，這土地也就是你的家，讓我們像家人一樣的歡迎你的到來。
音樂
音樂是林強在1990年發行的「向前走」，這首歌應該算是台灣音樂史上的經典之作，開啟台語搖滾音樂的先河。重點在於歌曲內容，描述了那個年代的集體心理狀態，南部年輕人紛紛上台北尋求更好的生活，所謂「打拼」，於是火車站（當時沒有高鐵）成為人生重要的離別場景，火車成為帶心愛的人遠去，或是帶你回到故鄉的，所有情緒的附著。
這首歌傳唱30年，雖然說的是當年的故事，但至今也仍還有這樣的現象。只是高鐵更快了，人與人的分離已經在科技協助下，也早已不顯得太過於難受，只剩下歌曲中的那段歷史，停留在現在30-50歲人的心中，藉由這首歌，想起自己的年輕歲月。

大陸的故事，通常就是台灣過去的縮影。即便是此刻，廣袤的華夏大地上，仍有千萬至上億人，離鄉背井，到遠方尋求更好的發展。他們必須拋下鄉親們，家人們，甚至是妻兒，遠赴千里之外，為故鄉的人奮鬥著 ... 在我編輯這段影片時，還壓根沒想到這些，但選擇「向前行」這首歌當作配樂之後，聽著完成品，台灣的故事早已走入歷史，但從北京歸來，想到這樣的情節，仍在無數的城市與農村裡發生著。我才來離開一週，就已經感覺到孩子又大了一點，那一年呢？真是令人不敢想像啊！
謹以此影片向所有在異鄉辛苦奮鬥，日夜為著家人努力的工作者致敬。

Wow, haven't heard Lin Chiang in ages. Good memories. Will always remember that my friend's dad who has the same name became quite a topic among his students during the heyday of Lin's popularity. The funny thing is my friend's dad doesn't speak Taiwanese.

看WTO節目，很多大陸新住民或遊客都說剛到台灣時很失望，因為不像他們想像的那麼先進，高樓大廈城市建設還不如大陸的發展。但是我反而慶幸台灣還有很多你的video中那些綠油油的景色，台灣的美可不是那些冷冰冰的現代建設可以取代的。
