Probably, those moments when I had the desire to visit this place would not be counted. But you just need to get off the asphalt road Veliky Ustyug–Nikolsk and drive a little less than a kilometer along a good dirt road. Even when I went to the neighboring abandoned village of Exhibition in the fall, there was no time in Podvolochye to stop and take at least one shot. But nevertheless, it happened - I intentionally and specifically came to Podvolochye to capture it!

Podvolochye is a village in the Veliky Ustyug district of the Vologda region. It is part of the Upper Shardenga rural settlement. The distance along the highway to the regional center of Veliky Ustyug is 50 km, to the center of the municipal formation of Upper Shardenga - 7 km. The village is located in the floodplain of the Shardenga River.

From a tall hill you can see the chains of ancient huts, they stand exactly along the street.

The village has more than twenty houses, among which there are very old five-walls with carved balconies and a couple of timber houses in the form of Soviet-built semi-detached huts.

There are two streets in Podvolochie, which are located by form of the letter L.

In this village, people still live. The cowsheds have long been abandoned, but the sawmill still functions.

There are still existing deforestation nearby, perhaps with the help of this the locals somehow exist.

Podvolochye is the most extreme residential settlement of the Veliky Ustyug district on the border with Kichmengsko-Gorodetsky district.

Previously, there were many villages in the district, but now these places are deaf.

The village of Podvolochye turned out to be interesting to photo only from afar. Nearby, it looks like most ordinary villages, and from afar it reveals the main property - orderliness.

Now this is rarely seen when the facades of houses are all in one line.

Most people nowadays have stopped thinking about holistic beauty, and only think about personal beauty. The main thing is that their house was the most beautiful, stand out, and the fact that it is knocked out from the integral composition of the village now does not give a damn to everyone. So it turns out construction chaos, which visually causes only disgust. And it’s nice to see such a village as this!

There is also an interesting design move in Podvolochye: two houses at the entrance to the village are at an equal angle with respect to the road opposite each other, that is, they are somehow escorting (or meeting) the guest. They knew how to build before and thought not only about themselves!

No wonder I dreamed for so long to get into this village - it could surprise me!
