This is a continuation of my previous post from Capri to Anacapri. After making my way up the ~1000 Phoenician Steps I came across the cliffside paradise Villa San Michele.
As I hadn't planned my exploration of the island, I had no idea what was inside the villa. A quick google search at the entrance told me I had to enter.
Upon entering, I was met with beautifully arranged statues followed by lush garden pathways.
What truly makes this villa a dream is the fact that it lies on a cliffside.
Following the pathway through the villa, you're met with views of the Mediterranean sea, the bay of Naples, Mt. Vesuvius, and Capri below. The beauty of this villa can't be captured by photograph.
After meandering in the villa for quite some time (and pretending that I would stay forever) I decided to climb to the highest possible point on the island, Monte Solaro.
Without the Phoenician Steps to guide, this part of the excursion became a hike (there is a chairlift available for those averse to hiking).
First, through the town of Anacapri, then up the trails leading to the summit. I even met a tribe of mountain goats along the way.
When I finally reached the peak it was close to sundown. The trek all the way up the mountain paid off when confronted with panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea. To get a real feel of the visual impact I'd have to upload a video, which isn't possible on this app. Maybe the limited scope of the photos will inspire someone to make a similar voyage up the mountain, if not on foot then by chairlift!
