These are the beautiful bioluminescent shrimp that can be found in the oceans of mainland Japan. The shrimp, none locally as "umibotaru" can be found from around July to October time. The shrimp are around 3mm in length and glow when they are disturbed by the oceans current.

Wow, amazing shot! Thank you for showing us this place. Where exactly is it in Japan? I've never seen this kind of shrimp, only been to the bioluminescent bay in Puerto Rico, but that's in the water.

Thank you @itchyfeetdonica, this was taken in Okayama, Japan. (Halfway between Osaka and Hiroshima). We have lots of cool wildlife in Japan, here’s another post I did about some of them if you’re interested....
