Emerald Pool in Krabi: Fantastic if you know the timing

in #travel6 years ago

Look, this is an amazing spot and I am not trying to say that it isn't. However, because of mass tourism is kind of ruins a lot of the fantastic aspects of it.

this probably doesn't look like too many people but well, there will always be more than this... many many more.... unless

I have been to this place about a half-dozen times. It is located about 40km from Krabi-town and if you have transport it really isn't that tough to get there. The problem isn't in the natural features, because those are amazing. The problem is that far too many companies offer package tours to it and at any given point in time there are probably 500-1000 people there. (I completely made these numbers up, but let's just say there will be a LOT of people there.)

The only way you can avoid this is to have your own transport and try your best to avoid 10am to 1pm, as most of the tour depart Krabitown at 9am and then let the guests stay there for a few hours. This means that you will need to have your own transport either in a rental car / motorbike and leave either really early in the morning, or well, eat lunch and then go there in the afternoon.

The pool itself is totally natural with a nice sandy bottom and there is a slight waterfall leading to the "swimming area." The water is quite cool as it is fed from a natural spring up-mountain and it is all fresh water.

I am actually quite impressed how the national park service has disturbed as little of the natural area while building this place including raised platforms and footpaths created mostly of natural stones (from the local area). The only real downside is the fact that tour agencies have pressed too many people into this spot during EXACTLY the same times.

Therefore, if you can arrive at this spot pre-10AM or post say 2PM, you are going to have the proper natural experience.

I would like to buy this land, how much would it cost?

The pool is very distinctive and wonderful
The most beautiful place to relax
I wish you the best times, my dear friend

The is really lovely, i learnt to swim recently because of which am a great fun of pools now, it surely looks delightful to be in this pool. Can you tell me if the depth ranges like artificial pools? I like to go to deeper depth it gives me an experience of natural lakes and seas

The problem is that far too many companies offer package tours to it and at any given point in time there are probably 500-1000 people there. (I completely made these numbers up

I really wonder how the scene looks like when after a very long walk in extreme heat only to reach a pool full of tourists trying to cool down after walking a mile...
I did read or hear somewhere that the pool is slippery. @gooddream How true is that?

The pool look cool with the natural water fall supplying the water. It shows the water would be ever new. No wonder it attracts so much visitors... Lol

Working as a tourist adviser would suit you well, you can't mention a problem without giving the alternative way to overcome it... Lol

I'm sure you will miss all this experiences now that you are not in Thailand... Smile

very very good travel with the nature and mer

That seems like an immense pool, that place seems extraordinary and very relaxing, I'll tell you something, for me if there are not many people, better, then the place is just for us, hahaha. good pictures.

being the owner would take a day to the week especially for family and so would not have the discomfort of so many people in that place

Wow, if I see it beautiful, it looks like the landscape of Roraima in Venezuela, when Venezuela leaves this situation everyone will be welcome to this earthly paradise

Whoa this place looks so cool. What time of the year do you recommend for visiting?

All the best!

This place is really exotic, nature does save a hidden paradise that with good management will become a favorite tourist destination, because the scenery and atmosphere is very natural.

This is an amazing place. BUT it is way over priced for what it is. They charge 10 times the local rate for entrance. I understand that they have an up charge but out of all the places my and my girlfriend (she is thai) have been this is the highest up charge out of all attractions in Chiangmai, Bangkok, Phuket. This does not mean its not worth it. I believe it is still an amazing attraction and you should see it but i think you need to go right when they open to avoid crowds. Also i suggest you getting a motorbike and going yourself. there is a park around there called Panombenja national park and the waterfall there is amazing and super cheap entrance fee! Thanks for taking the time to write this i really enjoyed reading your perspective on it!

Ohhhh my god is super nice!!! Yes a pitty that there is always many people but thats normal.. Thailand is so nice that everybody wants to go there right??? Thanks for telling us the best time so we wont find so many people!!! I just came back from my trip to Thailand! I just posted my first article of the trip!! Have you been to Emerald cave in Koh Mook?? That was crazy, go in the late afternoon, otehrwise is too crowded butm late in the afternoon you are alone there. To reach that you have to go in a cave under the water. The results are so amazing as you arrive to a nicest beach ever, after the adventure of the cave where you will be in completely darkness and you will see bats!! really..awesome!
