Yeah steemit was a little all bugged up, I'm glad it's back to running smoothly! A bear bell is just a bell you clip on somewhere and it jingles when you walk to make noise to alert the bear of human presence coming so they have a chance to leave the area to avoid surprise encounters.
I guess it works but the bear spray, or perhaps a little .45 caliber friend seems to me to be better options.
I do carry bear spray in more remote locations but here in Canada they are not as gun happy as the US and it is illegal to bring firearms to a National or Provincial park unless you are a designated park ranger.
