Lisong Hot Spring

Lisong Hot Spring is located in Taitung County in Taiwan. Taitung is less travelled than capital city of Taipei, making it one of the more naturally preserved places in Taiwan. The population there is also smaller. This trip to Taitung was to visit the legendary Lisong Hot Spring which was situated on the South Eastern Expressway of Taiwan. This expressway is not as famous as the Central Expressway which crosses the state of Hualien.

Another home of the ironman, Taitung is well known for its untouched and beautiful nature. Close to the central mountain ranges, this is also where the famous Jade Mountain (玉山）can be seen. Lisong is situated along the Southern Expressway in the Haiduan county, which was build since the Japanese colonisation days. Nestled in the mountains, this hot spring was unknown to many except the Bunong Aboriginal tribes who live there for centuries, Bunong are hunters and they go around the mountainous region in search of food.

The Hot Spring itself requires some energy and health to accomplish, there is a mountain trail down from the starting of the cabbage patch, then from there, you will have to descend with a lot of care as the mountain is usually very foggy and very misty. During winter is actually the best time to go as the water level is lower, making it easier for river crossing. But it also means weather will be colder and you will need to plan for the stuffs to bring.

This time I stayed with the Siama Bed and Breakfast. This home run place is very comfortable and they offers tours to all the places around this region. It was from here I made it to the starting point to the Hot Spring. About a 30 min drive from Chi Shang Train Station, you will reach the Siama bed and breakfast. Nestled in the quiet part of the mountainous village of Siama. They offer lodging, tours and also Hot Spring soaks too.

It is really quite cold up in the mountains and as we decent, the weather gets slightly better with more light. The ending part down to the river is really slippery and there are only ropes to hold you. From there we took a rest to change up to something more waterproof . The water is really cold but it is also very refreshing and you can feel that it is really unpolluted mountain spring.

You will be rewarded after all these as the hot sprig is really amazing! Algae washed walls makes the green emerald finishings to it and also you can chose to dip inside like my guide. The water is really hot so it really keeps you warm in the cold winter day before heading back.

We had lunch at the base camp with some instant noodles . It was really amazing and you get to be in touch with nature fully!
