The year 2018 has kicked off already, and every travel lover will be making plans for trips to be undertaken this year. Traveling on a low budget, however, can affect which countries you visit and the ones you avoid. The cheaper the destination, the better your travel lifestyle will be while you visit.
With 2018 looking to be an exciting year for travelers, it is essential to stay on top of issues that pertain to countries you intend to visit. Some of the countries you need to visit are now very cheap, thanks mainly to a drop in the value of their local currencies on the global market or by lack of tourism.
Visiting any of the top five cheapest countries to travel in 2018 will not only offer better prices for you but will enable you to help its people as well as the local businesses as well.
Indonesia
If there is one place that you must discover several times in a lifetime, then Indonesia is the place. Boasting of about 17,000 islands, Indonesia offers it rainforests, volcanoes, and white sand beaches – not to talk of exquisite surfing and fantastic scuba diving opportunities - to you at a meager price.
One U.S. dollar equals 13,500 rupiah (Indonesian currency), which makes it affordable for you to get a decent accommodation, transportation and even food. One night at any of their beautiful guest inns costs just $20 per night and you can, enjoy delicious seafood for as little as $3.
To rent a vehicle, you may need to shell out $15/day; therefore, go for a motorbike which costs just $2 per day to use. The alcohol in Indonesia is not something to scream about, no thanks to the hefty tax on imported drinks. However, if you are willing to spend a little more money, you can have imported beer at most beach restaurants or bars.
Malaysia
Malaysia is not all about Kuala Lumpur. The country has lush forests as well as stunning beaches begging to be visited by tourists. All you need to do is avail yourself of the super-cheap public transport.
Since Malaysia is regarded as a central hub for a majority of Southeast Asian countries, it is highly recommended that you take the opportunity of a layover so that you can enjoy some of the best views this Asian country has to offer outside the attractions of Kuala Lumpur.
Mexico
Thanks to a struggling peso, Mexico offers an affordable cost of living. One US dollar is 19 pesos, and that is quite incredible. To avoid spending too much money when visiting this country, make sure you don’t travel there during its peak season – which is usually from November to March.
During the peak season, costs of accommodation are very high, especially in December. Most of the best places will already have been booked as well. You will, however, be shocked at the great values that Mexico has to offer anytime you visit the Spanish-speaking country.
Even the internal flights with both Aeromexico and Viva Aerobus are affordable. Long-distance bus rides are pocket-friendly as well if you want to go by road.
Bolivia
If you love backpacking, then Bolivia is your best choice. Not only is it one of the most favorite spots for adventure travelers around the world, but it is also a very affordable destination to travel to and live in. In Bolivia, you don’t need to be afraid of over-spending when you eat out or buy your favorite alcoholic drinks.
Every item comes at a modest price, and even the hotels are budget-friendly. You will also get to enjoy exploring the beautiful country without fear of compromises.
South Africa
Not only will you enjoy a safari experience in this African nation, but you will also enjoy it all at a very modest price. You will also be surprised at how inexpensive the alcohol, food, and transportation is in South Africa. Despite the fact that the country is developed, you will be tempted without measure to extend your stay because it is cheaper than home.

Very good advise ... Cape Town is becoming more expensive that last years, but depending of the moment for the rate of change. Rand is going up and down very quickly.

Actually, Romania is pretty cheap too! If you exclude big cities such as Bucharest, Cluj, Iasi or Timisoara, Romania is a cheap place to live! In fact I visit Craiova at least every other year

I have been in Indonesia before and yes, I can approve that it's very cheap. Also, night life in Jakarta is very good. You can meet new people very easily. There, take my upvote :)
Just back from a trip to Bali.
Cheap and delicious food. Cheap accomodation.
Friendly people and good dive spots.
And now really cheap because of the eruption of the vulcano Mount agung.
