Etretat is definitely among the most beautiful places that we have visited in France. From the moment we arrived I understood why it was listed as one of the "must see" places to experience in the country.

The town is located in Normandy along the Northwestern coast between the cities Le Havre and Dieppe. It sits in a small valley between two chalk cliffs.

You can hike the tops of the cliffs on both sides of the town to gets some pretty spectacular views.

Like many places in the country, there are no fences so you can get pretty close to the edge. I will admit, the strong blowing wind made me a bit nervous while I was walking the path in the photo above.

It would have been a long way down if I fell.

At the bottom was a small hole carved into the rock. Its the entrance to a tunnel that leads to the beach on the other side. I didn't realize that it was meant to be a pass through between the cliff, so I was quite nervous when we first entered it. I got over that quickly though. We could stand up and walk normally once we got past the opening. My wife made fun of me because I refused to stand upright. She said I looked like the hunchback of Notre Dame with my backpack on. Better that than hitting my head on an unexpected rock though.

An old WWII bunker on the pebble beach. It reminded me of Iron Mans helmet.

In some places the rocks on the beach were quite large and deep. At times it was like walking in a ball pit, like you ones you see in the kids play areas at MacDonalds.

Looking back at the town in the valley and the opposite cliff, where we started our hike.

Some people (myself included) say that they see an elephant when they look at this rock formation.

There were many little coves, caves and points of interest to explore along the way.
