MONTEPULCIANO HIGHLIGHTS
Montepulciano is my favorite tiny town in Tuscany. There are many attractions but I will talk about the most important of them.

PIAZZA GRANDE
The main square of Montepulciano.

This was filmed a lot of scenes of soap opera “Medici Masters of Florence”.

I found an old nail in this square. But it was not rusty. I thought I found something worthwhile. But my wife upset me, she said that this nail most likely remained after filming. I was crushed.

The Piazza Grande is surrounded by buildings and highlights such as The Town Hall, Palazzo Tarugi, Clock Tower, The Pozzo de’ Grifi a de’ Lioni and Duomo.

You get to the square, along the long street. The street called the Corso. This street runs through the town up the hill from one of the ancient gates of town Porta al Prato.

DUOMO, OR CATHEDRAL
Duomo was built in the first part of the 17th century. Inside you find Taddeo di Bartolo’s Assumption of the Virgin. This triptych painted in 1401.
TOWN HALL
It’s building in the Gothic style with a high tower. Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall) is looking likes Florence’s Palazzo Della Signoria. From the tower, there are amazing views of the surrounding.
CLOCK TOWER
High tower with the clock and bell ringer on the roof.
CITY WALLS
The walls were designed by Antonio da Sangallo in 1511. You can sit in the cafe and enjoy the surrounding countryside.
MADONNA DI SAN BIAGIO CHURCH
The church locates below Montepulciano. It is a beautiful Renaissance church by architect Sangallo. He worked on this project for 16 years from 1518 until his death.

WINE
A visit to Montepulciano wouldn’t be complete without exploring one or more of these wine cellars. Montepulciano is well known for the great production of red wine “Nobile di Montepulciano”.
